From this, a new research field opened up – me questioning the role of painting in contemporary art and relating myself to the canvas in an aim to explore topics around containment. From the contained image repressed by representation, to frameworks that hold too much and are unable to withhold accumulated tension related to seamless production.
In my practice I question commerce, value, systems that frame and protect us but simultaneously exhaust and extract from us. I found the relation between the industrial quality of oil, material presence circulating in family history through labour, infrastructures of extraction and an academically acquired craft to be an interesting line of inquiry in exploring and contextualising internal or local issues in a more global sense.
